At My Home Again (a musical interlude)

January 2nd, 2008 · 6 Comments

(Sung to the tune of Willy Nelson’s On the Road Again. Sing though until the end for full effect.

They’re at my home again.
I just can’t believe they’re at my home again.
The life I love is making memories with my kin,
And I can’t wait till they’re at my home again.
All home again
Sharing memories that are funnier every year.
Feeling things that we may never feel again
And I can’t wait till they’re at my home again.

At my home again
Like a band of mad elves we enjoy the holidays
We’re the best of friends
Insisting that the world be going our way
And our way
Is when they’re at my home again
I just can’t believe they’re all at my home again.
The life I love is making memories with my kin,
And a little while after they’re at my home again…

Just can’t wait until they get on the road again
The life I love is interrupted by loud people I call kin,
And I can’t wait till they get on the road again
And I can’t wait till they get on the road again.

I think it’s been a long holiday season for all of us. Thank goodness for January.

I don’t know if I feel like singing odes to having all my in-laws over.

At least not songs that I’d want them to hear.

lol I’m glad to be getting on the road and back home again myself. It’s been a fun {and looong} visit with family but getting home will be good!

You are obviously not only a talented poetess, but songwriter as well (so what if they’re not entirely original?). I’m just curious, what is the interval between “we’re the best of friends” and “can’t wait till they get on the road again?” For me, it’s about two hours.

Keli – the interval is about 2 days for one side of the family, about 2 minutes for the other, which can be extended by drinking a lot of what I call “liver marinade”.

We solved that problem. No booze at our house. Hubby’s kin like to … no, make that insist on getting drunk at every event. The one year we had the family celebration at our house they stayed long enough to get the presents and then adjourned to a cousin’s to embibe mass quantities. We, ummm reluctantly (not!) decilned to join them. Strange, but that cousin doesn’t invite us anymore. mmmmm.. BREAKS MY HEART!
