Motherwise Cracks

My kids taught me everything I don't know.

Lost In Our Space

Why is it that only mothers can find things? Perhaps it is one of our superior skills or perhaps it is just that:

  • No one else picks things up as much
  • No one else steps over or in them as much
  • No one else pays as much attention to household matters
  • No one else tries as hard to find them (for some unknown reason)
  • All others give up way too easy
  • All others know and trust that mom will find it eventually
  • All of the above.

I sent my son down in my “fallout shelter,” the basement area where I store large quantities of products I got on sale somewhere, to get cans of corn for dinner. He couldn’t find them, swore they weren’t there and told me he’d give me $5 if I found them. He owes me.

I sent my husband to find pickles in the refrigerator, a very limited space. He couldn’t find it, swore it wasn’t there and told me if I found it, he’d do dishes. My hands are dry.

One has to wonder if it is a plot to get mothers (or wives) to eventually stop asking their family members to fetch things. Not on my watch.

Hubby does an impression of me looking for stuff. It involves having one eye closed and one hand over the other as I peek through the fingers with the other hand outstretched feeling around. In our house, HE’S the find it person. I swear, he hides stuff just so he can drag it out and tease me about being half blind! LOL!! Hey, maybe that’d be a way for you to make more money!

I think something magical happens upon giving birth, finding the ‘lost’ items is our super power. As far as super powers go it’s pretty lousy but it’s ours.
