Up Against a Wall

January 14th, 2008 · 5 Comments

I don’t like walking into a packed gym mid-way into a game. It feels like all eyes are on you as you try to find where to sit or where your family/friends might be. I asked my husband to text me where he was in the gym so that I would know where to find him at my son’s game as I knew I would arrive late and didn’t want to wear that “lost soul” look this time.

He just learned the fine art of texting (he calls himself “Tech Daddy” in the most sarcastic of tones) and he is very willing to show his budding T9Word prowess. I figured it would take him about 10 minutes to get the message poked in and sent, so I reminded him to text me where he was right away.

So you think he forgot to text me? Nope. He remembered. At exactly 6:59 p.m. I got this message: Tech Daddy“I am by the wall”.

I thought it was a joke until I realized just who I had asked for direction.

Next time I will just give Tech Daddy a red flag or a flare.

Ahh, so exact. Against the wall. How were you confused? I am coaching 7/8 basketball coed and loving it. Coaches of course are allowed on the court and there to assist there kids out. This week we got destroyed (again) but my daughter scored (our only 2 points). I was so happy I started jumping and ran over to her and picked her up and ran down the court with her and put her in her spot to play defense. Soooo proud.

I love it! That sounds exactly like something my husband would say!

I understand completely how Tech Daddy feels – there is something in us resisting the text movement. Flares are a much cooler and better means of communication:)

Joe – happy coaching. I bet you are the MOST embarrassing father-coach your poor daughter will ever complain about. We lose all the time too but it sounds like you, like me, make the best of their “baby steps.”

Beth – I know. So sad.

Jeremy – I know. After 27 years of marriage, I just laughed.

At least he didn’t say “I am over here”, that would be worse.
