Only in my hometown do we celebrate Labor Day with Goat Chip Bingo and these dancers. I worked the Goat Chip Bingo stand and this was my view of the dancers. The goats looked a bit better (none of them had varicose veins) but they don’t have as much energy.
I choose my girlfriend’s husband to be the judge, and he agreed to it. He was never around goats so he didn’t know that wearing sandles wasn’t a good idea. He does now.
It took 20 minutes for the goat to get down to business, the longest wait we’ve ever had. They are usually pretty much non-stop workers, if you know what I mean. Last year, it only took about 30 seconds. It’s very stressful walking behind a goat with a stick to mark the spot for such a length of time. At one point, the designated goat went to take a number 1 and fooled the crowd that had gathered to watch. I had to announce that we are only accepting number 2 as a bona fide “chip” for the contest. Who would have thought that someday I would be making such important annoucements? I am sure my mother is very proud.
This excitement kept me busy so that I didn’t miss the two girls not being home – sniff. My son took off with his friends to explore the other booths and left me with the goats - and their chips. The goats, Emma and Isabella, were very good listeners for most of the day.  Later, my son came back with maple products and cookies, which elevated his status back to beloved son for the day.
The Kiddie Parade was really great. One family, who owns a limo, dressed as pirates and got inside a boat that they somehow loaded on top of the limo. They had a blue sheets under the boat so that it looked like water and attached a plam tree to it too. They were hysterical so they deserved first prize.
Today, we are having a BBQ with whoever is left out of my sister-in-law’s family and mine. She has kids that are in college too –  a great time to use that maple BBQ sauce we got yesterday in my little town. (Goats are not involved in this event.)

I’ve been to quite a few functions like this myself!

I love the whole feel of the event you depict. I think even I might have figured out no sandals, at least from the chip department.
