Christmas Without Kids

December 25th, 2008 · 5 Comments

Someone broke into Gram’s house again and stole her pain meds for the second time this month. The kids were scared for her so they spent the Christmas eve sleeping over at her house so that she wouldn’t be afraid.

It was the first time in 25 years that we didn’t have anyone knocking at the door, lifting up our eyelids, or making a lot of noise to wake us up at 6:30 a.m. to open gifts. I slept to a glorious 7:45 a.m. Okay, I admit that I did miss the old routine – but I look well-rested. A bonus when going to see my brother later today who is very critical and sure to point out any additional wrinkle or age spot that has been added since last year. I am hoping that his eyesight gives out soon.

My gift, a digital keychain for all of us featuring the photo from last year that the kids tried to surprise me with was a big hit. I kind of made up for what a snot I was to deflate their surprise for me.  I didn’t even rub in how none of them had a clue what I was up to. I know how to keep a secret: don’t tell it to anyone.

Last year's surprise that I ruined.

This is sort of what I wrote about, too. It is so hard not to have my kids at home. I’ve got MG, but she’s almost 18 and isn’t really “here” if you know what I mean. I guess as we get older we just have to work a little harder to find the Christmas inside us, too.

Hope your day was wonderful anyway and that you have a safe and Happy New Year!

OH! I forgot to ask how your Granny is doing now. How wonderful of the kids to care so much that they stayed with her. You’re raising some good ones, Mom! xoxoxo

That was nice of your kids to spend time with their grandmother on Christmas Eve night after what happened. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and I wish you a very Happy New Year.

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
