See Spot Still Be Able to Take You

May 18th, 2009 · 7 Comments

I date myself, but I still can hear the old line from my First Grade reader, “See Spot run.” For you younger readiers, Spot was Tom and Judy’s dog and they were the main characters in the reading series. These poor kids had a very limited vocabulary. All they usually said was related to various members of the family and the verbs run, laugh, and play. In my family we added hit, spit and kick, but I digress.

This weekend, I added some new material to the other reader stuff, hence the title of this post.

I went to my daughter’s house and she was out, so I sprawled out on her couch. Half way through a movie she came home with her friend.  One thing lead to another and she tried to show her my age spots. Hello. Keep you hands off of my grubby age spots, especially when I am trying to drink my wine. I had to fend her off with one hand so as to not spill my Merlot all over her couch, which she would have given me great grief for.

This is NOT my arm. It is some other freak's arm.

This is NOT my arm. It is some other freak's arm.

Not to worry. Apparently, these age-spot covered hands and arms are much stronger than hers. I fended her off  with no problem and was able to re-establish my dominance. See Spot still be able to take her daughter. Easily. That part felt good. Thinking that I am the specimen for a freak show did not. I AM A HUMAN BEING!

I did order some expensive age spot removing cream last night.

Oh yes, I remember Spot but in my book it was Dick and Jane. I still have one of those books some place around here. I also have one or two age spots. Why is it everything makes us feel older everyday?

Of course I know about Spot. Maybe that is only b/c my mom bought my boys a See Dick Run book, but whatever. And, if someone can have age spots and still be as funny as you, then they must not be too freakin’ bad. Your blog rocks, age spots and all:)

With age spots come wisdom…or something like that! :)

Hmmm…I find it very difficult to believe that your younger daughter was not able to defend herself against a 50-something old woman. Maybe she had been out drinking with her friends that day and was therefore unable to channel all of her strength. Funny how that wasn’t mentioned in your little story…

T – you sound a bit defensive. Whatever the lame excuse might be, the fact of the matter is that the 50-something woman had the upper hand. In addition, I might have been trying to protect the daughter’s reputation as she HAD been drinking with her friends all day.

I’d have thought the age spots would have slowly eroded through the inside to eat away muscle. Go old lady!

Never underestimate the power of MOM!

At least they didn’t get a pen and try to connect your dots. My girls have done that.
