Crafting at Camp

July 4th, 2009 · No Comments

It’s time for the annual family camping outing and that means that everyone expects something fun and different when it’s our turn. I mean “our turn” because there are six families that camp and we get one night of the week to prepare dinner for all 34 of us. The rest of the nights we get to just eat someone else’s cooking.

I have done tie-dye T-shirts, a camping prom, and some other fun things but this time I decided to do beer helmits. Well, the little kid will use cans of pop and I will be fixing up a wine helmit. I dug up about 30 hats from the hubs and my son, and tubing is about .25 a foot so I figured that this would be a cheap project. I just needed duct tape – enough for 30 beer helmits.

I wanted to provide the opportunity for people to be creative so I got red, blue, white, black and the classic gray tape which will be used to attach the two cup holders onto the hats. Cups were simple – I got 15 for a $1.00 and was out the door of the Dollar Store in a flash. On to the hardware store and I would be done.

I was yapping away at the cashier when she told me the bill for the tape was $75. Who knew that colored duct tape was so blasted expensive. I sure hope they get a laugh because I wasn’t laughing when I paid the bill. I went home and had a glass of beer and thought about what I had/might be getting myself into.

I will let you know how it goes.
