Yes, the combination of gravity and soda (pop) and/or beer for the adults, did make for a messy time.
The craft exercise I had planned for my family’s vacation (see post below) was a big hit, and the whole crew got into it as the photo to the left illustrates.
As it turns out, duct tape will hold a cup onto a baseball hat holding a full can of beverage quite well. (I had worried about this AFTER I had already spent $25 in plastic tubing before I thought about the duct tape not working to hold up under the weight.) The plastic tubing worked just fine and combined with gravity, this contraption can almost drown a person drinking the beverage of their choice.
I plead ignornace. I never took physics in school and hadn’t counted on how fast the liquid would flow, hence, the prolific use of these attractive party hats at college campuses everywhere. Silly me. I thought it was popular because it was a convenient way to store your beverage for when you wanted a sip and didn’t feel like getting up over an over again. Live and learn, I say.
It started us remembering (those of us who had soda, anyway) of all the fun things we have done on this vacation through the years including our Sizzling Seventies Supper and Night at the Prom.
When it was all over, the group of 34 of us went through 3 cases of pop and a good amount of a Canadian beveage we purchased at what they call “The Beer Store” up there in the north. No one had any room for the food we served for dinner, condeming my family to endless roast beef on weck and cheesey potatoes for lunch until it was gone. It was a long week.
