The visit for parent’s weekend was great and I learned that my son is capable of keeping his laundry clean and doing homework without serial reminders. He has learned that mom is a pretty good cook and the colleges save the best food for times visitors to campus are expected.
We watched a rugby game, which I had never seen. It is crazy! Mass tackling with no equipment on and even girls pay this game. It was very entertaining and I loved the cheer before the game that featured this line, “What makes the grass grow? Blood!” We went to the chapel after that and I thanked God he doesn’t play rugby.
I have to see that he is alive by watching if he posts on Facebook. He doesn’t call as he is “busy”. Oh, and surprise, surprise. My daughter finally got on Facebook herself after giving me all kinds of hell for my membership. She told me last night, after she got a few nice updates from people, that she thinks it might be good for something after all. Thank God. Now I can feel better. (Insert sarcastic tone here.)
We went to Walmart that is near the campus, and met the other 2000 parents visiting the school that weekend. There was a run on instant ramen noodles and mac and cheese in aisle 4, and I thought of that rugby game… all the tackling… I decided to send my son noodles when I got home.
I did save some money not having to buy air freshener. His room didn’t smell. (I wish I could say the same about his room at home. Dirty laundry is gone but left some telltale residual odors I can’t get rid of.) He even told me he vacuumed the floor. Saints be praised.
Leaving that night was like leaving him there in August all over again. It was then I remembered that we forgot the Kleenex at Walmart.
