Birthday Tips

February 15th, 2010 · 4 Comments

For my birthday today, my girls took me out for a mani-pedi combo, so I am sporting pretty new finger and toe nails. It was very nice.

My husband made lasagne, which takes him the whole day. He does the same dinner for us every year. It was delicious. I was happy too that my daughter observed how funny it was that it takes him the whole day do make a dinner, something I do daily in about 30 minutes for less. Now, THAT observation is a birthday present.

I used to hang around and put my two cents in (he didn’t put any sauce on the top layer – none!) but that was a mistake. I noticed this after about 25 years. I decided to just shut my mouth and let him make dinner. If he made a mistake, it was his. So I don’t get tempted to intercede, I leave to get a mani-pedi combo.

My birthday gift to you other wives out there who might be like I was in my younger years is some advice. Offering unwanted supervision when your beloved is trying to take a load off, even though it is hard for him to do and easy for you, isn’t a good idea. A few mistakes make for a more relaxing dinner atmosphere. And heaven knows, he’s had to eat a few of mine from time to time. Chow.

    First of all… HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Second… it is soooo true about letting your husband do thing his way (Burger King theme song playing softly in the background). My Mother-in-law always gave me good advice but one of the best things she ever taught me was that NOTHING will ever be perfect and if it is then there is something wrong. She told me that the Amish always put an intentional mistake in their quilts because they believe that only God is perfect. I’ve always remembered that in all things.

And third… could you get your daughter to teach my daughters how to notice things like that? Pretty please?

I can’t get my feet done. I’m too ticklish. Me getting my feet done would inevitable result in a lot of wriggling and shrieking and people giving me funny looks.

I can eat lasagna like a pro, though.

    Dearest friends:

Lemon Stand – Ah, wise words from the mother-in-law! I think you have to wait for the kids to come to that point but it won’t hurt to constantly point it out to them until they see it for themselves. Thanks!

Choochoo – sorry for you that you are so ticklish because a pedi is such a treat. And yes, I can pack away the lasagna too. At least you have that pleasure to enjoy.

veterankindergartenteacher – bad husband and daughter. I send you a virtual Valentine right now. Everyone should get a Valentine. I would make them feel very guilty until they see red – very Valentine’s Day.
