Geese Before the Sweet Corn?

August 2nd, 2011 · No Comments

It’s not supposed to happen like this. I just heard geese overhead and the corn isn’t ready yet.

I guess that is pretty much how strange this whole summer has been. Everything seems to be out of the ordinary lately. It makes me think that we are living in some strange times. Does anyone else feel that way?

From the hail during the heat to the long stretch of heat itself, it stunted our gardens. At least we am getting some vegetables as we begin August and I have some realistic looking fake flowers (that even light up!), so all is pretty well.

Last weekend was my husband’s high school reunion and it was nice but not as exciting for me as for him. I had a bet with my wife-of-a-classmate friend that it would take less than an hour before the second grade stories started. You know the ones – the stories that you didn’t live through and can only smile and listen to…for the third time.

I had a goal to meet before the reunion, but like the corn in our garden, the geese showed up before it was ready. (And I didn’t say “geezers” here though I was very tempted.)

The good news is that it didn’t matter that I didn’t reach my exact weight loss goal. That ended up being an experience we all shared.

Without a reunion, the Eagles are forever young, like James Dean.  ~ Glenn Frey
