Isn’t it funny how you can walk into a home and be taken with a look and feel without exactly knowing why? That, in my humble opinion, is because the homeowner or designer, has been able to create a feel. When you stop and look around, then you start to notice the details, the things that are so special that have created that certain look for feel for that home or room. One of these such things is lighting fixtures. You can’t just stick any old fixture up and expect it to be special. If you would like a certain look and you like quality items, you can take an online visit to Murray Feiss lighting and see what there is available. There is a wide selection of wall lanterns, ceiling lights, bathroom fixtures, pendant lighting, chandeliers and more.
Corbel? Rosette? Pilaster, anyone? Don’t know what these are? Well, if you want to have an inviting home, you had better get to know them. One of the best places to do that is at www.invitinghome.com. They have a and unique collection of decorative hardware, and the items mentioned above that you probably didn’t know what they where, molding, rosettes, knobs and pulls, shutters, fireplace mantels, ceiling domes, and much more.
Their home decor products are so different and you are sure to find something that no one else in your circle of friends has, which is one of my “musts” when I decorate. I want to be the only one around with
that particular item like these Bahama Shutters. Come on – look at them! Tell me that in Western New York anyone else would have these? No way, and that’s the look I go for. What a great look for a summer room, porch, or if you have a changing area near a pool.
Shutters are only one of the many items you can use to make your home truly inviting and to prove that, take a look at www.invitinghome.com’s collection of home lighting. This site has a section you must read called “The ABCs of Lighting” that explains how good lighting can correct the proprotions and the volume of your living space – very interesting.
I love the look of
lights and molding working together to create a light, airy space as well a beautiful and warm one. Sometimes it’s the subtle things that you do that create a feeling in a room that when you enter, immediately relax or welcome you home like the way that the molding and lights work together in this photo. I also love the white ceiling in contrast with the green drapery and light green walls. When I go to some Web sites (like this one) I get inspired to do similiar things in my home. I don’t naturally get these types of inspiration but thank God someone does for me.
Now, if you don’t know what a corbel or pilaster is, you simply go to www.invitinghome.com and look at the links on the left sidebar. They are both listed there. When you click on them, you’ll see not only what they are but how they would be a beautiful addition to that certain spot you were looking to make more beautiful. Go look and consider it an educational experience.
Oh, and one more thing. They have a closeout and specials area on their site. (From Home, go to Special Offers on the top menu bar and look on the right sidebar.) You KNOW how I love a good deal and take a look at the Art Deco screen on sale – it’s the very first one. Beautiful!
When something is available at a discounted price, there are some people who think that it means that the items aren’t as good in quality. If you know how to shop, that is not the case. The whole point of discount shopping is the pay less for the same quality. I like things that are not only the best price around but that are unique or different. If you are in the market for furniture with a distinctive look and you don’t have an aversion to paying less for it, AKA discount furniture, then by all means, check out www.boyles.com. Their discount and online furniture shopping experience features armoires, beds, sofas, recliners, youth furniture and furniture for the home office. They have had a family owned and operated retail store in North Carolina since 1949 and offer 40 to 50% off of retail prices. They wouldn’t be in business that long if they weren’t doing something right! If you can’t get to North Carolina to their store, try their online store for quality furniture for less.

I love it when I see a Web store promis “Satisfaction Guaranteed” as it gives me a sense of security. The company has been in business since 1994 and has had over one million customers which means that they must be doing something right. Allergies? Wood burning stove? Dry indoor air?
If so, you could really get a great deal of relief from the Honeywell Cool Mist humidifier. I have this model, the 102M, and it works great. We have a wood burning stove and it really dries things out in the winter. We have found running this on a routine basis really helps put moisture in the air.
We originally got it for my daughter with allergies and she had it in her bedroom. She loved it and swore that it helped her sleep easier and kept her throat from feeling parched through the night. When she left for college, we decided to give it a try downstairs.
Water is atomized by ultrasonic sound waves and propelled into the air by a small fan. These ultrasonic pulses are silent and produce a visible mist, so you don’t have to guess if it’s working. And this model is so quiet it is unbelievable.
If you have young children, you wouldn’t have to worry about them getting into any hot steam as this is a cool machine and it lights up. The blue center section works like a night light and makes it easier to see the water level inside. It is running right now as I sit here by the fireplace and I have to strain to hear a slight hum, but I can see it pushing the moisture into the air. It shuts off automatically when it’s out of water too so you don’t have to worry about it running or forgetting about turning it off.
This model might be more expensive than the other warm moisture humidifiers, but this is such an effective and quiet way to add moisture to your indoor air, that it is more than worth it in the long run. It’s on my “A” list.

How do I love my Ove Glove? Let me count the ways. It’s inexpensive, it works. Pretty simple, just like me. This is an item I asked to get for Christmas last year. My husband found it at the hardware store and I have loved it ever since.
This mitt really does keep the heat out and you don’t feel a thing when grabbing even the hottest things out of the oven. We have a wood burning stove and it comes in handy when I have to fiddle around with feeding the fire too. Sometimes the claims are not credible with Informercial products, but this one does work. I would only warn you that if it gets wet, it does conduct heat pretty fast, so don’t spill the gravy and expect to keep cool. I give this my seal of approval. Go ahead and ask for one this Christmas – you won’t get burned.
